Compatibility Issue!
Published on February 7, 2007 By MarkSnyder61 In Windows Vista
I recently bought an ATI X1900 AIW Card which was around $300 I installed Vista Home Premium to use the Media Center feature. The TV Tuner part of the card won't work and I was told by ATI that there is not going to be a fix for any of their AIW cards but their TV Wonder Tuner Cards models 650, 550 and Elite will work under Vista. I had to go out and spend another $80 to use the Media Center. After all the months of development I cannot believe that a company like ATI cannot get their act together and make their products work with Vista. If I'd known about this beforehand i would have bought an nVidia Card instead! I'm not happy at all with ATI.

This is why I'm holding off on Vista until I know it will support my hardware.  I'm also holding off on a media pc completely until I know what hardware is going to work period.

The ATI web site has Vista drivers. Go here http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html . I already install them and they work fine. nVidia dosen't have drivers yet.

The links don't work? Any way they are for 32bit and 64bit.

Try it again http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html

I don't know how you did it (and no, I am not calling you a liar) but I have the same card Ati X1900 All-In-Wonder 256MB installed along a Hauppage WinTv PVR 500 (dual ntsc tuner with fm radio).

When I first installed Vista (Ultimate), it, of course, installed Microsoft proprietary drivers which, suffice to say, SUCKED big time.

Once I downloaded the Vista drivers from Ati/Amd website, my X1900 AIW worked just fine (there are still some software glitches though) and I was able to watch and record tv shows with no hassle whatsoever.

One more note : although not the same card, I have a laptop with an Ati Mobility Radeon X1600 with Vista installed as well. In this case too, once Ati drivers were installed, no flaws whatsoever in using the card and its software.

I know there are way too many different cases (as it was with Windows Xp when it first came out) but so far, drivers compatibility has not been a problem for my systems when I install Vista ( 4 desktops and 1 laptop, age varies from 4 years to less than 8 months old)...

Heck, I was even able to run Vista Ultimate on a Lenovo J105 (3000 series desktops) with no hardware changes and no driver problems whatsoever...(Yes, not worthed on this system as Vista would run weeee too slow...).

#4 above you misunderstood...when I tried to just use the AIW card the TV Tuner part of the card don't work under Vista MCE. I did buy a Separate TV Wonder Tuner card and it works fine. The X1900 video only works fine with the driver from ATI. I just don't like the fact that since the AIW X1900 has a built in Tuner Card why i should have had to buy a separate TV Tuner card in the first place.

Uhm, Vista Ultimate has also the MediaCenter and I can use the AIW card with no problem (Tuner part works just fine)...

Guess it's another mistery from MS and/or Ati...

After reading, #'s 4, 5, & 6, this seems like good advice.

With emphasis on this part. "holding off on a media pc completely"
